How Ultraviolet Disinfection Works
When bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms are exposed to Ultraviolet light at a particular wavelength (253.7 nanometers) their reproductive capabilities are destroyed, which means that they are inactivated and no longer pose a threat to human health. Water enters the unit through the inlet port of the Ultraviolet generator cell. The water flows through the generator cell and swirls around a low pressure mercury vapor lamp, which emits powerful Ultraviolet light energy. Vital genetic components contained in microorganisms absorb the light, and ultimately destroying the organism.
The treated water then exits through the outlet port of the generator cell and is ready for consumption.
